Accreditation and Qualifications

At Conifers House School, we believe that every pupil should have their progress, effort, and success meaningfully recognised — regardless of their pathway or stage of learning.

We offer a range of certification and accreditation opportunities across all three curriculum pathways. These are designed to be flexible, accessible, and appropriately challenging, and to reflect the diverse needs and strengths of our pupils.

Celebrating Progress Across All Pathways

Pupils may work towards formal or non-formal recognition through:

  • AQA Unit Awards (used flexibly across Green, Orange, and Purple Pathways)
  • ASDAN programmes – including Personal Progress, Life Skills, and Employability modules
  • Entry Level Certificates in English, Maths, and Science
  • Functional Skills qualifications (typically for Orange and Purple Pathways)
  • GCSEs (Foundation Tier) — where appropriate and accessible
  • Internal certificates linked to therapeutic and academic milestones
Accreditation is based on each pupil’s readiness, engagement, and EHCP priorities — not on age or key stage.

Pathway Examples

Green Pathway

Learning to Learn

May include AQA Unit Awards focused on early communication, regulation, interaction, and engagement. Progress is celebrated through sensory and therapeutic milestones.

Orange Pathway

Participation in Learning

May work towards Entry Level 1 and ASDAN modules in life skills, PSHE, and functional literacy and numeracy. AQA Unit Awards are used to recognise topic work, independence, and communication goals.

Purple Pathway

Independent Learning

May access Entry Level Certificates, Functional Skills qualifications, and, where appropriate, GCSEs (Foundation Tier) in subjects such as English, Maths, and Science. Qualification access is carefully matched to cognitive profile, emotional readiness, and EHCP outcomes.

Personalised, Supported Accreditation

We ensure that all accreditation:

  • Matches each pupil’s strengths, needs, and long-term goals
  • Is delivered in a supportive, trauma-informed environment
  • Is scaffolded to reduce anxiety and build confidence
  • Celebrates every milestone — academic, social, or therapeutic

Where pupils are not yet ready for formal assessment, progress is tracked through individual targets, portfolios, and evidence-based observations.

A Focus on the Future

Every pupil at Conifers House School is supported to leave with:

  • A portfolio of meaningful achievements
  • A clear plan for next steps
  • A positive sense of identity as a learner, communicator, and individual
Our commitment is to recognise every success, however big or small, and to prepare pupils for the future with confidence and dignity.
